GROUND WATER PROTECTION

WHY IS GROUNDWATER PROTECTION IMPORTANT?

The water from our taps comes from City wells and springs. The quality of our drinking water is affected by what happens on the ground above. Actions taken on the surface can impact the groundwater we drink. The protection of drinking water requires the cooperation of everyone living and working in the protection zone areas. Never dispose of chemicals or hazardous materials on the ground. These materials can migrate through the soil and impact our water resources.

GROUNDWATER SOURCE PROTECTION ORDINANCES

To help protect our groundwater, Pleasant View City adopted a Drinking Water Source Protection Ordinance - Municipal Code Title 13, Chapter 13.14 . The goal of this ordinance is to prevent chemical spills and pollution releases that could go into the ground and pollute our drinking water.

YOU CAN HELP PROTECT GROUNDWATER

Pleasant View City would like to request your cooperation in protecting our valuable water resources, which are the heart of our community, our way of life, and our future. We can each take action in our businesses, in our homes and garages, and throughout the community to protect groundwater.
Potential contaminants of concern include fertilizers, pesticides, and household hazardous wastes stored or used at your property. Downloadable fact sheets describing proper handling, storage, use, and disposal of these materials are available below.

In the event of a contaminant released from your property, immediately contact the City Public Works Department (801) 547-7772.
